Birth and background
Seema Biswas was born on January 14, 1965 in Guwahati, Assam. His father Jagadish Biswas was in the construction business and his mother Meera Biswas was a history teacher and theater artist from Assam. Three siblings in the range. Her two older sisters are singers and one brother.

Seema started her film career in 1988 with Amshini. She rose to fame in 1994 when she played the role of Phulan Devi in Shekhar Kapoor’s film Bandit Queen. She won the National Film Award in 1995 and the Filmfare Award for Best Actress and Best Female Debut in 1997, respectively.
